Tips for a weekend in Gorinchem

We hope you enjoy your stay at De DroomBoutique in Gorinchem. After a delicious breakfast in our KoffieBoutique, it's time to discover Gorinchem and the surrounding area. Would you like to go on a bike ride? We have mapped out the most beautiful cycling routes around Gorinchem for you. Below are a number of activities and sights in Gorinchem and the surrounding area.

Cosy town centre

The DroomBoutique is located in the center of Gorinchem. When you step outside, you immediately find yourself in the bustling part of town. Here you will find many shops, both chain stores and local businesses. You will also pass the Wilhelmina Fountain and can take a look inside the Gorcums Museum. There's a good chance you'll witness the balcony scene of a newlywed couple!

Large Church Gorinchem

Just behind the Gorcums Museum, you will find the Grote Kerk, which was built in 1851. It is not the first church to stand on this site. In 1263, a Gothic hall church was opened. In 1844, the church was officially closed and demolished due to dilapidation. Seven years later, the new, current church was opened and has been used by the Protestant church ever since. You can take a tourof the church and learn much more about its history. Guided tours of the Grote Kerk in Gorinchem are also available on weekends, but please be mindful of the Sunday service.

The harbour, ramparts, the ferry and Loevestijn Castle

Near De DroomBoutique, you will find the ramparts and the harbor, a beautiful area for walking. From the harbor, you can take the ferry to Woudrichem. In Woudrichem, take the foot ferry to the most famous castle in the Netherlands: Loevestein Castle. There is something for everyone in the castle, the outer bailey, and the soldiers' village. In the museum, you can learn about Hugo de Groot, the Middle Ages, and the Dutch Waterline. This is a must-see during a weekend in Gorinchem.

Fort Altena

If you have your own car or rent a bicycle from us, we highly recommend exploring the area around Gorinchem during your weekend stay. Just after the Merwede Bridge, you will find Fort Altena. It was built at the same time as the current Grote Kerk, in 1847. It was part of the New Dutch Waterline, which ran from the former Zuiderzee near Muiden to the Biesbosch. You are welcome to look around, take a tour, and have lunch in the cozy Brasserie. Fort Altena also offers the possibility to hold meetings and conferences. An original place to meet colleagues and business relations.
