The Biesbosch is one of the few freshwater tidal areas in Europe. In this delta the tide still has free play. The Biesbosch is a maze of rivers, basins, willow forests and whimsical creeks with crystal clear water. You can walk in the Biesbosch through polders with names like 'Doolhof' and 'Pannekoek'. Along the edges of the area you can cycle over old dikes, along rivers and villages. The wet, rough nature of this swamp can be experienced especially from the water in a boat or canoe. Paddling silently through narrow creeks, along richly vegetated banks, stooping under low branches, you will experience nature up close. Kingfishers shoot by, a harrier hunts between the reeds, a cormorant dries its wings on a tree stump. Sometimes even the bald eagle can be seen. In the Biesbosch you are one with nature, to the rhythm of ebb and flow. For more information about De Biesbosch click here.

The Linge cycle route introduces you to the Linge, the longest river in the Netherlands. This side arm of the Waal is at its most beautiful between Gorinchem and Geldermalsen. A meandering ribbon in the flat Rivierenland with on both sides intimate dike villages, osiers, water meadows and many fruit trees. This cycle route takes you along both the north and south side of the beautiful Linge. You start in the glass city of Leerdam, where it is immediately pleasant to linger. Your tour will lead you via the small dike villages Asperen, Acquoi and Rhenoy to Beesd. The Mariënweerd country estate is well worth a visit. Via Geldermalsen you will cycle back with a curve. Then you will come across the villages of Enspijk, Rumpt and Asperen. The turning point of this long loop is Gorinchem, after which you will return to Leerdam via Arkel. This route does full justice to the splendour of the river landscape. For more information about the cycle route click here.
